Chief Executive Officer – Part Time

All children have the right to a happy, secure and loving home environment. All children should be able to access the help they need in times of crisis and all children should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. We believe this is every child's 'Birthright'.

Birthright New Zealand is a charitable trust with 11 affiliates throughout New Zealand. Our work strengthens and enriches the lives of children and their families.

The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Trust Board, and your role ultimately is to drive the organisation forward - with vision, with influence and as a true advocate in our sector.

You will have the voice of the families we represent and you'll use your voice with passion and conviction.

You will be accountable for ensuring we meet the objectives of our strategic plan, managing our funding and income streams to ensure the organisation is in solid financial shape.

The current CEO has done a fantastic job of embedding solid structure into the organisation and is leaving us in great shape for our next phase of our development.

Your background will likely include: a relevant qualification, 5 years of related experience, a solid and detailed knowledge of the social service sector, and either experience or knowledge of the non-for-profit sector. You will have managed budgets and preparation of reports and be comfortable in owning the budget numbers.  Funding is a large part of the challenge we face so you must be comfortable and confident in preparing submissions and applications for support.

You will need excellent networking skills, be able to present and enjoy public speaking – you will liaise with the media to amplify our message working in line with the Board's Communication Strategy. Our affiliates deliver a huge variety of social services and you will manage and acknowledge those relationships. You will work with the appropriate Government Agencies and ensure the organisation complies with all legal obligations and maintains our reputation for delivering on our promises.

This is a busy and varied role with a massive opportunity to make a difference. Working 30 hours per week from our Wellington office, you will have the support of an assistant and, of course, the full support of the Trust Board who will support you both in your strategic and your operational challenges.
