We provide a free, confidential information and advice service. Open Monday to Friday 9am – 3pm. We provide a free 15 minute legal service Mondays 12.00 -1.00pm. (Appointments must be made in advance.) JP clinics are also available each Friday 12 – 1pm except on public holidays. No appointment needed. We can provide information of Clubs & Community, Health & Welfare, Tenancy, property and land issues. Immigration, passports, Goods and services Motor vehicle & transport issues & all other local information. We also coordinate the Meals on Wheels service.
Birthright Central Otago is based in Alexandra and covers surrounding communities such as Glenorchy, Kingston, Queenstown, Wanaka, Upper Clutha to Makarora, Cromwell, Roxburgh and Millers Flat.

In Central Otago, Anglican Family Care provides Home-based Family Support. This is working alongside families in their own homes on issues such as: Parenting skills and child management; Increasing parent knowledge of their children's needs; Building on families' strengths and developing parents' self-confidence; Informing parents and encouraging their use of community resources and support networks. It also provides Counselling: For individuals, couples and families, focusing on issues of concern to them.
A social worker and a counsellor provide support to individuals and families Monday Tuesday and Wednesday each week from their base in Alexandra. Families are requesting help with issues of housing, inadequate income, relationship, abuse and parenting issues.
In Central Otago we offer Big Buddy programme (volunteer mentoring for children), Family Works Programme via the Community Welfare Team, social work, advocacy, budgeting, food assistance;and community development.
Rural Women New Zealand is the respected voice of rural New Zealand families and communities because we understand and address social, economic and environmental aspects of rural communities. We make a difference in rural communities by making submissions at national level where Rural Women New Zealand has a leading voice for rural women and their families. The organisation provides educational scholarships, bursaries and grants for rural children. Workshops, leadership training, demonstrations and skills days are frequently organised. Support and friendship are invaluable amongst rural families. The Central Otago Executive disseminates information from branches to regional and national representatives and back to branches and members again. New members are always welcome at any local branch ( Tarras, Cromwell, Dunstan Group, Glenorchy, Cambrian – St Bathans ) where we aim to strengthen rural communities. Among other things, the organisation provides educational scholarships, bursaries and grants for rural children.
Counselling, advocacy and assistance with food, furniture and clothing is available from the Alexandra office. The Salvation Army can also provide emergency winter firewood.
This organisation provides confidential caring support and information to women and children who are victims of family violence.
