  • Government advice on how to start your own business
  • Home Biz Buzz offers information, tools and resources for small and home businesses throughout New Zealand
  • Work and Income offers an Enterprise Allowance which supports people while they start up a new business.
  • The Christchurch Small Business Enterprise Group promotes people-centred employment, economic and enterprise development in the Canterbury region.  Their website has a lot of useful information for starting up a busienss.
  • Waitakere Enterprise is a trust that provides business information, training and mentoring, new business start-up training and coaching, central government business funding advice, business events, business location information and assistance, key business client management and young enterprise and skills and education initiatives. Their website has lots of valuable information, including downloadable spreadsheets and document templates.
  • Franchise New Zealand has a wealth of information about buying and running a franchise.   A franchise is when you purchase the right to market a company's goods or services within a certain territory or location. Some examples of franchises in New Zealand are McDonald's, Greenacres and Domino's Pizza.  There are many different types of franchises in industries as diverse as automotive, cleaning & maintenance, health & fitness, financial services, and pet-related franchises.  They also have a magazine that is freely available in Westpac  branches.
  • Poutama is a nationwide business development organisation that fosters the growth of Māori-owned micro and small businesses.  Poutama seeks to facilitate economic growth for Māori and to create an environment in which Māori entrepreneurs and businesses can flourish.  Poutama provides a wide range of services including business information, clustering, networking and business advice.
  • The Maori Women's Development Inc. (MWDI), was launched in 1987 to provide loans to Maori women, and now Maori men, to help set up business, expand existing business, and provide financial advice and mentoring services. The loan limit is up to $20,000. MWDI has an application form which every applicant has to complete. Along with providing a business plan and evidence of business education undertaken, some basic research will be required about the business, including its place in its industry and the economy.
  • Created by 'Mums On Top', the Mumpreneur programme has been running since mid 2007 and offers an opportunity for mums in business to promote their products and services to each other and their target markets for free.
