Birthright works alongside many organisations in our community.  We have gathered together a list of resources in our community that you may like to utilise:


Note: This section includes services based in Waikanae, Raumati and Paraparaumu. Other services that would also be available to Birthright clients in Birthright Kapiti’s area (Waikanae and Paraparaumu) – based in  Porirua (Wellington), Levin, and Otaki – are found in those sections of the website.

 

BARNADOS FAMILY SUPPORT - KAPITI
  • Purpose / Services Available: Support families through stressful times and challenging circumstances.  Services include home visits, listening ear, advocacy, resourcing, parenting courses, home management, relationship issues, budgeting, referrals, assessment of needs.

FAMILY MATTERS FOUNDATION
  • Purpose / Services Available: Counselling services and programmes for families, children, couples and individuals.  Services also available in Otaki.

KAPITI CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU (CAB)
  • Purpose / Services Available: Provides free to all individuals an impartial and confidential service of information, guidance and support, and makes responsible use of the experience so gained.

KAPITI COMMUNITY FOODBANK INC.
  • Purpose / Services Available: To provide emergency food parcels to needy residents of the Kapiti area - Waikanae to Paekakariki.

KAPITI FAMILY BUDGETING SERVICE
  • Purpose / Services Available: To help individuals and families find security in handling their own financial affairs through the development of good money management skills.  Volunteers provide free, confidential non judgmental advice and support, help with planning a budget and living within an income, negotiations with creditors and agencies as required, arrangement of banking and recording systems.

KAPITI FAMILY COUNSELLING
  • Purpose / Services Available: Counselling and therapy for individuals of all ages, couples and group facilitation.  Services:  Hourly on negotiable sessions.  Training and supervision.

KAPITI IMPACT TRUST (KIT)
  • Purpose / Services Available: We are a local charitable trust with the specific focus of serving the Kapiti community - particularly families, youth and children through partnering with other community groups and providing services that meet real needs in our community.  Current regular programmes we facilitate are "How To Drug Proof Your Kids" or DPYK (facilitated by Will Buist) and Kenakena Playgroup.  We are also associated with Paraparaumu Family Church.

KAPITI MEN FOR NON VIOLENCE INC.
  • Purpose / Services Available: To break the cycle of violence and abuse, and work toward a non violent lifestyle and community.  Services include educational intervention programmes, counselling for anger and stress management, relationship, work and personal issues.  Affiliated to the National Network of Stopping Violence Services.  Domestic Violence Act (DVA 1985) agency and programmes.

KAPITI PARENTS CENTRE INC.
  • Purpose / Services Available: Antenatal classes, post natal education and support.

KAPITI SAFER COMMUNITY TRUST FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES
  • Purpose / Services Available: To support young people and families at risk through the provision of strength based family support services.  Community based social work, both individual and/or family work, with school age children and young people in response to behavioural and/or social issues.  Referrals can be made by schools, agencies or family members.  Co-ordination of collaborative interagency work with families through the Strengthening Families process.  The Trust incorporates the Kapiti Family Violence Initiative.

KAPITI SKILLS CENTRE
  • Purpose / Services Available: Training, education and employment programmes and services.  All training, education and employment services are available free to youth with a school exemption, school leavers and WINZ clients.  We provide NZQA unit standard training and assessment services to individuals, organisations and businesses wishing to upskill staff or gain qualifications.  We also provide a range of outdoor education programmes delivered by qualified outdoor education staff.

KAPITI THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY INCORPORATED
  • Purpose / Services Available: Alcohol and drug rehabilitation intensive day programme, one to one counselling, psychotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming, family counselling, group counselling, education workshops, anger and stress management, understanding addiction, LTSA approved driver re-licensing, court reports, assessments, alcohol and drug screening tests, guided self change, budget advice, meditation, relationship counselling, conflict resolution, mapping your future, goal setting.

KAPITI WOMEN'S CENTRE
  • Purpose / Services Available: The Kapiti Women's Centre is a feminist organisation, referral, educational and counseling services.  We are committed to removing any economic and social barriers that may otherwise prevent women from using these services.

  • Purpose / Services Available: We provide support, training and education and lobbying services to parents.  We celebrate and encourage effective parenting, run workshops and seminars and also provide written resources.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

  • Purpose / Services Available: Counselling, educational talks, displays, practical help for women in need, lobbying MPs.

Widowed Separated & Divorced Support Group (WSD)
  • We are a support group for people who have lost a partner through death, separation or divorce. Our aim is to encourage self-healing and growth. We run 10-week courses up to three times per year, in Wellington, Lower Hutt, Kapiti and the Wairarapa. There is also a social programme for those who continue to be members after they have finished their courses.
