Birthright works alongside many organisations in our community.  We have gathered together a list of resources in our community that you may like to utilise:

 

Anglican Family Care ( Central Otago)
  • In Central Otago, Anglican Family Care provides Home-based Family Support. This is working alongside families in their own homes on issues such as: Parenting skills and child management; Increasing parent knowledge of their children's needs; Building on families' strengths and developing parents' self confidence; Informing parents and encouraging their use of community resources and support networks.  It also provides Counselling: For individuals, couples and families, focusing on issues of concern to them.

Catholic Social Services Central Otago
  • A social worker and a counsellor provide support to individuals and families Monday Tuesday and Wednesday each week from their base in Alexandra. Families are requesting help with issues of housing, inadequate income, relationship, abuse and parenting issues.

Central Otago Womens Support Link
  • This organisation provides confidential caring support and information to women and children who are victims of family violence.

Alexandra Community Advice Network
  • The Community Advice Network offers a free, confidential referral and advice service. The office in Alexandra is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. A toll-free service is available to the wider Central Otago and Maniototo areas. We welcome all enquiries and will do our best to provide the information needed from the resources we have available.

Presbyterian Support
  • In Central Otago, PS offers: Big Buddy programme (volunteer mentoring for children);  Family Works Programme via the Community Welfare Team; social work; advocacy; budgeting; food assistance; community development.

Rural Women New Zealand Central Otago
  • Among other things, the organisation provides educational scholarships, bursaries and grants for rural children.

Salvation Army
  • Counselling, advocacy and assistance with food, furniture and clothing is available from the Alexandra office. The Salvation Army can also provide emergency winter firewood.
