About Us

The focus of Birthright's services is the children and young persons of one-parent families, although some regions include two-parent and blended families also.  We work with the whole family to facilitate the growth of confidence, development of living skills and a sense of independence and self-help within the family unit and its individual members.

We believe:
  • all children share a “birthright”: the right to a good start in life, help in times of crisis and the opportunity to reach their full potential
  • the personal growth and improved circumstances of their parents will enhance this process
  • these families can succeed on their own terms, as well as positively contribute to the community.

On the 27 November at a Special General meeting of Birthright NZ the delegates passed a resolution to adopt a new Constitution for the society.  This has taken nearly 2 years of discussion with many representations from our different member societies. Our new Constitution reflects current thinking and will provide a great platform for our National Executive to further enhance the work they can do to improve opportunities to assist single parent families. Our new Constitution can be viewed here.
